Summary from C.J. Cherryh's Fiction
Location
C.J. Cherryh's first novel in the Atevi series, Foreigner, opens with an optimistic re-birth of Earth's colonization program. Unfortunately, the FTL Starship Phoenix and its station module is diverted from its original destination (a "G5" star that is located about 20 light-years from Earth) when it loses all reference to local space -- and time -- after proceeding from an intermediate "jump" point. The only star that matches that the original destination is 82 Eridani A, which is a yellow-orange dwarf star (G5 V) similar to our own Sun, Sol, that some astronomers had previously believed to be evolving off the main sequence as a subgiant or even giant star. Past (but perhaps now dated) spectroscopic analysis indicated that 82 Eridani may have a dimmer stellar companion.
Chronology
Post 2354 - The colonization ship Phoenix and its station module was launched after the Earth Company had lost its extra-Solar territories in the events leading up to the Treaty of Pell in 2354 CE.
