Summary from C.J. Cherryh's Fiction
Location
The original colonists at Beta Base may have encountered hostile space-travelling Aliens (e.g., one of the various types mentioned in C.J. Cherryh's novels involving Chanur and Meetpoint Station who are found via Earth's "backdoor") in 2157 CE, and who had abandoned the star system by 2163 CE. Although the old Hinder Starstation may have been claimed by the newly founded Alliance in 2353 CE, the system was temporarily occupied by surviving Fleet carriers (some of whom become Mazianni pirates) that were retreating from an unanticipated encounter with Union carriers, armed Alliance merchanters, and Earth Company forces at the Battle of Sol. Beta Base is located somewhere in the Alpha Centauri 3 system.
Chronology
2039 - Starstation module arrives on ECS1 Gaia.
2157 - Broken transmission from 300 station colonists indicating
difficulty.
2163 - ECS7 Santa Maria finds station deserted (and some dead).
Surmised that colonists evacuated by building a new ship.
