Location

Founded in 2201 by a group of dissident scientists and engineers that were sponsored by financial interests on Mariner, the Cyteen system includes the Planet Cyteen and Cyteen Inner and Outer Stations. Cyteen declared its independence from the Earth Company in 2300 CE and now serves as the capital of Union. It is located at Lalande 46650, but is more easily referenced in current star catalogues as BD+01 4774.

Chronology

2201 - ECS10 Challenger delivers Cyteen module from Mariner (Van Maanen's Star).

2203 - Novgorod established on Planet Cyteen.

2220 - Plant derivature found to have interesting medical properties. 
           Estelle Bok arrives on ECS10 Challenger as an immigrant.

2227 - ECS2 Valiant picks up drug ("rejuv" breakthough).

2248 - First FTL ship, FTL1 Aurora, travels to Mariner and back.

2260 - Converted FTLECS2 Valiant mutinies against Cyteen supervisors 
           and brings fast-than-light (FTL) technology to Earth Company.

2266 - Esperance station module launched by FTL pusher ship.  

2280 - Fargone station module launched by FTL pusher ship.

2282 - Dublin launched as armed, FTL merchant ship.

2300 - Founding of Union.

2354 - Treaty of Pell allows continued Union occupation of former EC 
           territories beyond Pell.
