Location
Mariner Starstation was occupied by Union near the end of the Company War in 2352 CE, after Union sabotage of the station and the evacuation of much of its population by the Earth Company Fleet. It is located at Van Maanen's Star, a stellar remnant called a white dwarf.
Chronology
2175 - ESC9 Beagle delivers Mariner station module to Van Manaan's Star
from Pell (Tau Ceti).
2177 - Telescopy of planets at Cyteen's star leads to station study.
2192 - Cyteen station module launched with ECS10 Challenger.
2218 - ECS2 Valiant launched with medical technology that becomes
center of Cyteen cloning program.
2298 - FTL vessels are being produced, and sublights converted, at a high
rate. Stations adapt to multiple ship dockings with proliferation
of "wild and wooly dockside bars and sleepovers." "Shooting
[between EC and Beyonders] takes place far from the stations."
2352 - Station is sabotaged by Union. Fleet retreats with refugees to Pell,
followed by Union occupation. Loss of shipyards vital to Fleet.
2354 - Union continues occupation of Mariner system under Treaty of Pell.
